Within this area of Bristol parking spaces are at a premium, with residents parking permits in place, which makes parking all the more difficult. Therefore a new, driveway is a much needed element that will benefit this family and their home.

To lay cobbles, you must be meticulous and diligent, making certain that every component is accurate. It’s mesmerising watching the cobbles progress across the driveway area.

Jerry and Sam added Aco drain channels for rainwater run off along the edge of the driveway, where it meets the pavement. They set up string lines throughout the project to make sure that they were laying the cobbles at the correct angle and height.

You can see how the beautiful yellow sandstone that has been used to decorate the window surrounds of the buildings during the Victorian construction, will compliment the new driveway.

Once the cobbles were running up towards the front door, this project really began to come to life. The steps going down to the basement will have another step up, as they join the driveway level. Sam starts building a low wall, which will act as the top step.

The curved section will be a planted garden border within the driveway design, giving the hard landscaped area some interest, and a space for flora and fauna to flourish.

Sam paints a primer onto the backs of the cobbles to help them adhere well. When the body of the driveway has been laid and is cleaned up, the driveway really comes into its own.

Pittosporums and grasses were planted in the small gravel garden section of the driveway. These are drought tolerant, and will need minimal care. We are really pleased with the outcome of this driveway. It has changed the approach to the house, making it more inviting. Check back in with us soon to see what our next project is.
